About
Musings from Eastern Illinois by a professor of physics.
I’m Dr. Jim Conwell ( jconwell@eiu.edu ), a professor in the physics department at Eastern Illinois University My area of research is General Relativity and relativistic astrophysics. Even though I’m a theoretical physicist, as a youth I made my own telescopes. …It helped that we literal lived above my dad’s Tool and Die company. I guess that’s why the physics department thought It would be safe enough to let me be around power tools, install a telescope and be director of the observatory. My childhood in a machine shop gave me some immunity to the infamous “Pauli Effect”.
Joe Glynn here, getting my first look at a picture of your observatory! I wish I could make it down this Friday to get a better look at that 16″ scope.
Keep up the good work!
